In 2015, he was criticized by some players and media members after Game 2 of the 2015 American League Division Series between the Toronto Blue Jays and Texas Rangers for what some saw as an inconsistent strike zone. While serving as the third-base umpire in Game 5 of the 2015 American League Division Series, Carapazza ejected Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Michael Saunders for arguing from the dugout over a reversed call at home plate.
